00TAL is an independent fine arts magazine
, run by a non-profit organization, featuring contemporary literature, art and debate. In its 24 years of existence, 00TAL – formerly known as 80TAL and 90TAL – has scrutinized contemporary tendencies in essays, articles, fiction and art projects, particularly in lively special issues with topics such as Motherhood, the Brain, Hypochondria and the Outsider.

One can call these special issues research projects on modern-day trends and movements. Since the aim is to reach across the boundaries between art, literature and science, 00TAL regularly invites artists, writers and scientists from many different fields to participate. We feel it is of the highest importance to broaden the research in different subject matters to embrace a wider audience and so that this research will not only be found in scientific journals. We also see it as our duty to provide a necessary platform for young, gifted writers, artists and scientists.

Consequently, 00TAL publishes new writers in every issue: Alejandro Leiva Wenger, Sara Villius, Anna Jörgensdotter, Jerker Virdborg, Petter Lindgren and Hans Gunnarsson are some of the many, many young Swedish writers who have made their first appearance in 00TAL. New interesting artists are also introduced in different sections, such as ‘00TAL Presents’. New currents in Swedish and international literature is a recurring subject, as you might expect. In some of the more recent issues, ‘Novellboom’ (The Short Story Boom) and ‘Amerikansk novellzoom’ (American Short Story Zoom), from 2002, writers and critics thoroughly examined one of the strongest trends in modern Swedish literature, the short story.

Over the years, 00TAL has organised numerous cultural, literary and artistic events; the peak of its achievements, of course, being the Stockholm International Poetry Festival.
